Description

Railroad Short Name: BN

With the arrival of the F7 in 1949, EMD had exactly what railroads needed to begin dieselizing with a vengeance. Geared for freight or passenger service, they were equally at home in either assignment. Over the next four years EMD built over 2200 A and 1400 B units, delivered in a rainbow of schemes for nearly every railroad in America. Tough and durable, many soldiered on into the early 70s and several are preserved. Fully assembled and ready for service, these models feature:

  • Road-specific details
  • Authentic bulldog nose
  • SoundTraxx(R) Tsunami(R) Sound for DCC and DC layouts
  • Five-pole, skew-wound, high-torque, high-efficiency can motor
  • Helical gears with 14:1 ratio for smooth, ultra-quiet running
  • Easy multiple-unit operation
  • Proto MAX(TM) metal knuckle couplers

Based on ex-Northern Pacific units from the mid-1970s to retirement featuring:

  • Working rooftop beacon
  • Rear lifting lugs on A & B units
  • Brass Nathan P3 air horn
  • Firecracker radio antenna
  • Nose grabs
  • Partial fuel tank skirts
  • 36″ dynamic brakes
  • Horizontal grilles
  • Nose door headlight
  • Freight pilot
  • Knob-style sand doors
  • Back up light (nonworking)
  • Winterization hatch
