Prototype Information

During the 1960s and 1970s, major U.S. railroads relied heavily on 60-foot wood deck flat cars for a wide variety of freight transport needs. These flat cars were constructed by three major manufacturers:

American Car and Foundry (ACF): Known for their innovation in railcar design, ACF contributed a significant portion of the 60-foot flat cars during this period. They incorporated durable materials and efficient manufacturing techniques to produce reliable flatcars.

Thrall Car Manufacturing Company: Thrall specialized in producing heavy-duty flatcars designed for versatile freight applications. Their contributions emphasized load capacity and structural integrity.

Pullman Standard: This historic manufacturer combined engineering excellence with robust construction to produce flatcars capable of handling a variety of industrial and commercial needs.

Uses
