ET44 Tier 4 Diesel Locomotive

Prototype Information

The ET44 series, introduced in 2016, is part of GE’s Evolution Series and designed to meet the EPA Tier 4 emissions standards. This series significantly reduces particulate matter and nitrogen oxides compared to older models, making it one of the cleanest freight locomotives on the market.

With 4,400 horsepower and a GEVO-12 engine, the ET44AC is the standout model in this series. Railroads like BNSF, Union Pacific, and Canadian Pacific quickly adopted the ET44AC, using it for its improved fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact while maintaining the same power and reliability for heavy freight.

The ET44 marks a key shift in freight rail toward cleaner, more sustainable technology without sacrificing performance, and it’s now essential in modern rail operations.
