F7 Diesel Locomotive

Prototype Information

The EMD F7 was a diesel-electric locomotive built by Electro-Motive Division (EMD) from 1949 to 1953, succeeding the F3 model. Powered by a 16-cylinder EMD 567B engine producing 1,500 horsepower, it was widely used for freight and passenger service. A total of 2,366 A-units and 1,483 B-units were produced. Known for its streamlined “bulldog” nose, the F7 offered improved cooling and electrical systems over the F3. It was succeeded by the F9 but remained in service for decades, with many units preserved today.
