Railroad Short Name: UP
Introduced as a road freight engine in the late 1800s, with its larger boiler and extra drivers, the 2-6-0 “Mogul” offered railroads a faster and more powerful engine than the 4-4-0. Serving railroads large and small, the engines were handy for fast freight or passenger work, as well as the needs of shortline and industrial roads. Bumped to secondary and switching roles as larger engines arrived, some remained in service until the end of steam in the 1950s.
