Description
The GE U30B was the successor to the 2,800-horsepower U28B introduced in early 1966. Much like the U28B, the versatile U30B was designed to be equally at home on fast freights or heavy drags but offered 3,000 horsepower from the same 16-cylinder engine used in the U28B. Almost 300 U30Bs were produced for the U.S. market including units delivered with high noses to N&W and SOU. Many units remained in service into the 80s and 90s, and by 2006 only a handful worked for shortline and regional roads.
PROTO 2000 models are accurate replicas of Phase I units and feature the proper radiator arrangement under the rear intake grilles. Each features a five-pole, skew-wound motor with dual flywheels, heavy diecast chassis and applied detail parts! Sound-equipped units feature a QSI(R) sound system and factory-installed DCC decoder that can be operated on DC or DCC layouts.
