Description

Railroad Short Name: CB&Q

The 70 Ton Mill Gondola was common design with construction starting in 1940. Almost 16,000 cars were built from numerous car builders, as well as several railroad owned shops. The simple design of this open top car made it one of the most versatile cars available. Loads of all types could be found in these cars: steel products (both raw components and finished goods/parts), machinery, minerals, lumber, scrap metal, and more. The last group of cars with this design were built in late 1957, so you could see these well into the late 1970s and beyond.
